In the past, exploring anything outside of Christianity has often resulted in backlash for our culture. Times have changed and so have we! Many things that are highly criticized within the Black American community; therapy, veganism, etc. are now being explored with open arms as we as a people do everything we can to become healthy and whole; physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. As a highly spiritual person, the study of metaphysics has peaked my curiosity on more than one occasion. I took the opportunity to have a conversation with Aisha Cannon, a practitioner of the Energy Healing Arts to have a few questions answered.
Aisha, thank you so much for taking the time to connect with me. Can you tell us a little bit more about your personal interest in the Healing Arts? How did you get started in it?
When I really sit and think about it, I have been interested in it all my life. I have really been interested in spirituality; I think spirituality is such a broad term. Our connection with God. What does it mean to be human? What is the life force that is within us? What is it that is engineering the World that we live in? I’ve also always had this feeling of being guided. People would often ask me, “What made you want to do this? What made you want to do that?” My answer was always literally, “Something told me to do it.” To me that realization signaled to me that there is something that I am connected to that is beyond myself; that is pushing, guiding, and shaping the actions that I take to align me with my purpose.
What areas of Energywork do you offer? What made you pick these particular areas of metaphysical studies?
I study a lot of things. I currently offer energywork via Reiki. I have actually studied three kinds of reiki and I am a Master in two of them: Traditional Usui and Karuna Ki Reiki. I am also an Akashic Records Practitioner. I do record readings for people and these are things I also do for myself.
I am just a perpetual student. There are so many modalities that exist throughout the world. A lot of indigenous practices on every continent that focus on energy and its place in our world; how it operates in our bodies and how we ourselves are energetic beings and how to manipulate that energy in positive ways.
What are some of the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing art. I interpret Reiki as a system of energy healing seeking to bring balance and harmony in one’s life. As a Reiki practitioner, I send the Reiki energy as a conduit to the person I am sending it to and it goes to all of the places that it needs to go. The energy is addressing the blockages and the imbalances that are present; providing healing. My intuitive abilities allow me to address the imbalances too.
How would someone new to this know they have a blockage or imbalance?
Ask yourself, “What is going on in your life?” Do you feel stuck? Do you feel lethargic? Are you feeling out of place? By understanding the lack of harmony within yourself; if you’ve been stuck for ‘too long’ in feelings of sadness/frustration/exhaustion. That is how you know.
I attended your Reiki Group Session this past Saturday. I noticed you recommended drinking lots of water over the next few days following the session to “flush” the energy. What is the purpose of that?
We’re all energetic beings and energy needs to find a way to let itself out. So, if you’re an energetic person, but have a full-time desk job answering emails all day then you probably haven’t released all of the energy that you personally need to release. Energywork operates under the same principle. Energywork manipulates your energy field, things are getting moved out and introduced. So you want to flush it. Water clears out toxins for us physically, but also does that for us spiritually and energetically. In addition to that other practices such as journaling, movement, creativity; whatever personal practices help with personally releasing the energy.
Let’s talk about Akashic Records. I received a record reading during the Pandemic and it truly solidified the path that I was on. Why would someone come to you for an Akashic Records reading?
Within the Akashic Records, you have access to Masters, Teachers (guides), and Loved Ones (ancestors). Everyone has their own set of Guides. They communicate your answers to you from your Akashic Records. The Record is a database of everything; the origin of your Soul. So it is a question and answer session. Your answers are things that you are capable of hearing at that moment in time. You have to be open-minded to what you receive.
Aisha, what services are you currently offering?
I currently offer three types of services. ‘Reiki & Beyond’ offers a highly personalized session that incorporates a combination of Reiki and other energy healing modalities based on your energy field reading. I offer Karuna Ki Reiki which heavily emphasizes love and compassion at the deepest level to repair your energy field. The last thing that I offer is Akashic Record readings; which are questions and answer sessions. Akashic Records are good for literally almost anything; motivation, relationships, a variety of things. This May I am doing a special 30 minutes for $30. If you have no clue what this is about, this is the perfect time to find out.
